The best way to add to your day: Greek yogurt

I love Greek yogurt and you should too. Here’s why:

Greek yogurt can be used in so many different ways. In fact, on the side of the container there are suggestions for where in recipes you can substitute yogurt for things like sour cream and butter.

There are plenty of ways to incorporate the protein packed yogurt into your life but breakfast is my favorite.

Starting the day right:

A big part of me being uneducated about what was actually a healthy way to eat lead to me skipping breakfast. It started in 8th grade and continued all the way through high school. I thought that if I skipped a meal, I would be skipping the calories and that would make me healthier. But in reality, you breakfast is what is starting your metabolism everyday. So eating early in the day will actually help you.

Once I realized this, I was still on a rather unhealthy path. I would just have giant bowls of cereal and call it good. But that’s not what my body needed. I’m on day three of eating healthy and breakfast has been my main focus.

I’ve been combining Greek yogurt with a tablespoon of PB2 and a drizzle of honey. Then I’ve been adding pieces of fruit. A different fruit everyday can help shake up my morning and not make the simple yogurt combination seem so routine.

My breakfast go to: plain greek yogurt with a table spoon of PB2 and a honey drizzle. I added strawberries this morning.

Changing what fruit I’m using is also a good way to remind myself that I have a ton of fruit in the fridge to get rid of. My biggest nemesis so far this summer has been fruit molding faster than I can eat it.

Middle of the day treat:

Using Greek yogurt as a snack is a great afternoon pick me up. I tend to use the original flavor, which can taste somewhat sour if you aren’t adding a natural sweetener such as honey. But it is great when you want to mix in some frozen berries. My favorite toping has been Special K cereal because it gives the same crunch as granola with less fat.

Late night indulgence:

Being a college student during the summer usually means staying up late and sleeping in. This also means that I’m not having breakfast until 10:30 or 11 am everyday. Which pushes my lunch back to 4:30 and dinner back to 7. But around 10:30 pm I get hungry again. Knowing that I’m going to be up for about three more hours I usually allow myself to have a treat. A small smoothie has been really hitting the spot for me recently. Greek yogurt, spinach, and all the fruit I want to clean just gets tossed in a blender for a minute and I have the perfect late night treat.

So now you hopefully understand my obsession. Greek yogurt has been benefitting me in every time of day, and I encourage you to go pick up a tub or two. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see all of the different treats I make with my yogurt!
